Tree Trimming & Pruning in Florence

Trimming is the cheapest tree work there is and the most frequently skipped. Dead limbs are what fall first in a storm, so taking them out of a mature canopy is the single best value available on a large tree - it reduces what the tree can throw at your roof without touching its health at all.

The other common jobs are clearance and structure. Clearance means getting limbs off the roof, out of the driveway, and away from the service line to the house, which prevents both damage and the slow abrasion that opens a roof up over years. Structural pruning is for younger trees, where removing a competing leader or a weak union now prevents the failure that would otherwise happen in fifteen years - the cheapest tree work you will ever buy, done on a tree nobody is worried about yet.

How the cut is made matters as much as which limb comes off. Every cut goes just outside the branch collar, the slightly swollen ring at the base of a limb, because that is the tissue the tree uses to close the wound. Flush cuts remove that tissue and invite decay into the trunk; stubs die back and rot inward. Heavy limbs come off in three cuts so the falling weight does not peel bark down the trunk on its way.

One thing we will not do is top a tree. Cutting a crown back to stubs is the most damaging thing routinely done to trees: it forces weak, fast regrowth from the cut points, starts decay at every wound, and produces a tree that is more dangerous in five years than the one you started with.
